Invest in yourself

"For the best return on your money, pour your purse into your head", Benjamin Franklin.
Yesterday, I read a quote from Abigail Horne’s book where she talked about a conversation with her father around having spent £12k on a mentor to help her build her business and career.
She framed that investment as a gamble yet was staggered that her father hadn’t picked up on it when she had shared her financials with him.
His response was incredible;
He didn’t see it as a risk at all - rather as a ‘gamble’ on herself - and being the only “horse in the race” she gets to decide if she wins or loses. That, he said, “is the beauty of investing in yourself and your future”.
When you are considering starting your own business there will no doubt be some gaps in your skills set. Or it may be that you are looking to pivot entirely to a completely new career and want to learn something new from scratch. Or that you need someone by your side to guide and support you. Whatever the reason, the likelihood is that this will involve some investment on your part. The sums can often seem scary and you will no doubt need to do some proper research to ensure that this is the right course / training / person for you.
But once you have identified that need or skills gap and found the right solution…do it. Take that leap. Make that investment in you and your future. Give yourself that opportunity to win…to succeed…to move forwards.
Hang on…I can hear that voice in your head saying…but what if it turns out not to have been the right solution? What if I don’t learn what I had hoped? Well, there is learning in that too. It is highly unlikely that you will learn nothing and if it does turn out not to have been the right course for you then you will learn from that experience as well. I would consider that a win too.
So take that ‘gamble’…invest in yourself…in your future you.
That way you’ll have given yourself a chance to win.
